Is Your Personal Brand Unique?

Are you unique, or merely different?

One of my favorite bloggers, Scott GInsberg of "HelloMyNameIsScott" fame has clarified the term "unique" as it applies to your personal brand. Using a real story from his own experience, he demonstrates that being different may not be enough, but being unique very well could be.

You may think the distinction between these two words is subtle, but consider this as Scott explains: the word DIFFERENT comes from the Latin word differre, which means "to stand out". The word UNIQUE comes from the Latin unicus, which means "the only one."

The Reach Branding Club's definition of a personal brand is "a unique promise of value". So what does unique really mean in that context? Go to HelloMyNameIsScott.com and read Scott's thought-provoking blog posting of February 23rd on what it really means to be unique, and then see if you can apply that definition to YOUR personal brand. It may just be the critical factor in your job search, career, or business marketing success.
